Beginners who solved all the clues in 2008: We recommend that you move up to the Regular Division. Help make room for the newbies!
NEW FOR 2008 – A NEW HUNT DIVISION
I’m adding a new hunt division: the Thinks Faster Than Runs hunt is a sub-category of the Regular Hunt designed for folks whose legs aren’t as swift as their minds. It will feature Regular Hunt clues, but teams in this category will be competing against one another rather than against all the Regular Hunt teams, and separate prizes will be awarded.
Teams can participate if:
- half their members are age 55 or older; or
- the average age of the team members is 55 or older; or
- one or more members have significant mobility limitations (i.e. someone with a sprained ankle or a woman in her 8th month of pregnancy).
Hints:
Hints for solving some of the clues will be posted in the "Hints for 2009" page in the weeks before the hunt.
Registration:
Each ticket can be redeemed for a sealed set of clues and a map on the day of the hunt. One person can redeem the tickets for everyone else on their team.
Other Info:
You must bring your tickets WITH YOU to the Hunt!
WHAT TO BRING TO THE TREASURE HUNT
Definitely bring:
- Comfortable footwear (you will do a lot of walking and / or running in the course of the hunt)
- A flashlight - the brighter the better.
- A ruler.
- Layered clothes, and possibly a backpack to carry them in.
- A spirit of adventure and a zest for new experiences.
Helpful but optional items:
- A San Francisco White Pages telephone directory.
- Snacks or drinks in a backpack.
- A zip-lock bag or other waterproof cover for your clues and map (if it's raining).
- A digital camera.
- An almanac, dictionary or other reference works.
- Highlighter and pens for marking your map.
- A calculator.
- Strongly recommended: a clipboard or piece of foamcore for your answer sheets (8-1/2”x11”)
Everyone gets a detailed map of the playing area, and every team receives an alphabetic street index. You're encouraged to bring your own maps, guidebooks or reference works to aid in solving clues. While familiarity with San Francisco geography is an advantage, the ability to collaboratively solve a puzzle and work as a team are more important.

Partial proceeds for 2008 benefited Circus Center and the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center.
